Adrian M. Fenty elected Mayor of the the District of Columbia.  I wonder what effect this will have on DC's finances and development.

Looks like an interesting discussion.

Technically, Fenty only won the primary. But the winner of the Democratic primary is seen as a virtual shoo-in, so they're pretty much celebrating early.

The DC and Baltimore areas are relatively close to one another but in my mind seem to be very distinct as well. Do the two areas intergrate well? Is there a sense of cohesion and sharing amongst the two areas such as transportation and technology?

No not at all. Only the Marc train, The MTA is Baltimore's and the WMTA is Washingtons.

It's hard for me to imagine them as one CSA, being that both cities are pretty large and definitely have their own distinct identities. Imagine what the region would be like if Richmond were located about 60 miles north of its current location.

Thanks krazeeboi, I realized my mistake after I posted.  But knowing how thoroughly democratic DC is the statement is probably true.

I agree with you and it makes me laugh when people trys to say Baltimore will one day be a DC suburb.

While the sprawl of DC and Baltimore is definitely connected and ever-increasing (DC's being faster), barring something very drastic and unforeseen, Baltimore will never become a suburb of DC; it's too much of a heavyweight in its own right.

I would believe that people who live in Baltimore would take offense to being described as a suburb of DC.  The two cities are just so different.

Yup. As a long-time resident I'll have to agree with that statement.

Someone posted this pic in another forum. I am thinking about visiting over the weekend. Anyone know of any other neat places to check out?

Oh how I long to visit DC again. I would have been coming up for Howard's homecoming this weekend, but things didn't work out. :(

Is that hotels behind the USMC War Memorial and if they are could someone tell me there names, I would really appreciate it. I plan coming to Washington DC next year for vacation and I'm looking for a hotel with a good view of the monuments and memorials.

This will be my third visit to DC. Except for the traffic, I love Washington. :yahoo:

Be prepared though for DC's sky high lodging fees. They were gonna charge me about 35% of my room's rate.

The building(s) in your photos are condos.  The closest hotels are probably in Rosslyn (walking distance to the Iwo Jima monument & Arlington Cemetery & Georgetown).  My recommendation is the Hyatt in Rosslyn (Arlington) off of Wilson Blvd.  Hope this helps!

Four Hotel Indigo Properties in Development

The Inter-Continental Hotel Group has announced four new properties in the metro DC-Baltimore area.  All of them will bear the new Hotel Indigo moniker.  I like what I have seen of these properties, but I must confess that I am disappointed to see that all of them are planned for suburban locations- Linthicum, Ashburn, Chantilly and Herndon.  The last three are all basically surrounding Dulles Airport.  Can't they put something downtown in DC or Baltimore?
