The Wilma Dykeman Riverway is the comprehensive plan for redeveloping Asheville's riverfront from a victorian era industrial wasteland into a vibrant, green, urban amenity. The centerpiece is a plan to links the discontiguous, underutilized roads of Riverside Drive, Lyman Street, Meadow Road, Swannanoa River Road, and Thompson Street together into a single multi-use corridor.

I have a lot to write about the Riverway but it's getting late so I'll save that for another day.

Now, though, thenews is that RiverLink (the nonprofit in charge of redeveloping the river) has acquired a key piece of property along the river to link two large parks together.

I read about that.  Now the two biggest plots of land along the river can be linked up.

The plans look nice.  Looks like it would be a good project for Asheville

The city seems to be pushing forward with studies of the portion of the Riverway between Hill Street and Amboy Road. This area is commonly known as the River Arts District. You can find a PDF here that was used at the public workshop last week.

According to the slides, the improvements will likely include:
-Improve & Relocate streets
-Sidewalk/multiuse path
-Transit stops, Bridges
-Stormwater retention features
-Other (river access, public art, etc)

The other roads along the river are NCDOT streets so any improvements there have to be done through them.
