I don't mind having reveals in precast, I'd just prefer that they were thinner and more square.  The large open rounded ones just seem to cheapen it for me.

Also, this project markets itself w/ the attached parking...something that this development should have had regardless of what design went there.

That is a true, but very very very sad reality.

What retail will be in there? When construction started, I heard there would be a Comerica Bank but I haven’t heard anything about it since.

Here is the latest on the websites press releases:

The building includes almost 30,000 square feet of retail space on its ground floor. 9,600 square feet of that space is leased by Fifth-Third Bank and another 6,700 is reserved, although lease negotiations continue. The retailers will start building out on April 1 with opening dates estimated to be Aug. 1.

So Fifth-Third is the only announced tenant. It will be interesting to see who fills in the rest

Are there any good guesses as to what could fit this 6,700 sq ft of retail space? Any insight as to what could/ would/ should go there?

thanks

I heard they were trying to lure a grocery store to that spot, but I don't know if they've made any progress.

A little birdy told me the precast is almost complete! Now its come to start enclosing the envelope so they should be going fast on those windows!

Yah, the last of the exterior is being completed, and the arched center feature over the vehicle accessway has been installed.  I never noticed it before, but the building isn't symmetrical in that sense.  In other words, there is more building along the south of Woodward than there is on the north of Woodward, with the vehicle drive separating the two (not in half)...ok, I'm sure there was a better way of explaining that. ;)

Hahaha I forgot about that 'feature'. It was supposed to be symmetrical, but it had to shift to accommodate the curb cuts off Woodward.

Well, either way, wansn't the building designed to have the arch over the vehicle driveway slot?  It would look kind of awkward if it WAS symmetrical, but wasn't over the two sections of building.  I dunno, just an observation! :)

From what I remember, the arch should be over the driveway... meaning the arch isn't centered in the building.

Its hard to tell, but you can see the difference in the rendering:

Are there any other developments like this in the pipe line for Midtown? It seems like this stlye is become all the rage these days (like that one 5 story bulding near the DMC with the starbucks on the first floor).

This is and interesting project. It’s environmentally friendly and is the kind of building that will go good in midtown. Though personally I don't like the way it looks, I think it is great for the area.

I was on the East Side yesterday for the ribbon cutting:

Wayne State University is hailing its latest mixed-use development on the southern tip of campus as a major milestone.

The Studio One Apartments opened Tuesday on the west side of Woodward Avenue between Forest and Canfield. The $34-million project is the first partnership between the public university and a private developer.

Building looks good and everyone there was excited!

The facade of that apartment building is shaping up really nice.  But gosh, that type of configuration where the building fills the lot with only small lightwells sure looks depressing from the side.  I think I'd rather live in an "arms"/U-shaped building.
