Mesan residents are doing more fighting bickering, and making more naive comments.
Oh Mesa I hope you grow up at some point and give your residents a reason to like living there.

They really ought to think about putting at least one station in the Fiesta Mall / MCC area (the "other" downtown Mesa). Especially if those high-rise condos go in behind Best Buy ("Fiesta Towers").

But yeah, it'll be a while until Mesa sees light rail.

The extension of the LRT line will be predictable and follow the 60 all the way through the city. Should be exciting, I just pray that Valley Metro is smart about station placement and bus routes that connect to the LRT.

I went out to lunch this afternoon and read part of the Republic. There was some interesting stuff in there, but this is Mesa related:

One at Crismon and Hampton, and one by Falcon field. These are the first higher end hotels to be proposed for the city since, The Hilton was built back in the late 80's. I like this kind of news. I'm really hoping Mesa is starting to try and grow into itself.

To the East Valley, the childrens hospital building a small facility at the corner of Southern and Higley. I do like hearing all of this medical news. It's cool.

I don't think it will work, you're going to need a developer to sink $ into downtown mesa with things like trendy bars and stuff, you have the infrastructure in place, Mesa has what it could use to have a Mill Ave style strip. But what these business owners are doing is a one night a month type of thing
here's a quote
Quote
On the second Friday of every month, some businesses and art galleries on Main Street between Mac-Donald and Robson will stay open between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., offer discounts and display some of their wares on the sidewalk, said Tyler Hurst, general manager of S’Bistro. In addition, “A Night Out in Mesa” will offer live musical entertainment

But, yeah, it probably won't work. Even Glendale is trying to get in on this whole Downtown thing: http://www.downtowndiningdistrict.com/
Mesa doesn't have the same vibe and rapport as Tempe's Mill, so I'm not quite sure how they're going to work this out without a crazy media campaign.
