Here are a few shots of the new 26 story Harrah's Hotel in downtown New Orleans. As I've outlined before, rather than destroying all of the empty and rotting old 19th century buildings occupying, they were refurbished and included in the facade. Honestly, I think it looks great, and it's something I wish more cities would do. (The plan to refurbish the old buildings was the idea of the New Orleans Historic District Landmarks Commission)

That's a good example of how compromise can work in historic districts.  I'ts great that Harrah's didn't simply bulldoze their way into the area.

I agree. Without a doubt I think New Orleans is one of the best when it comes to finding that middle ground between progress and preservation. The building looks great the way it is today because of the compromises they made. The end result is a commercially viable building that puts those historic blocks back into commerce. Some people hate facadectomies, but I think it depends on the situation. In this case the interiors of the building served no real purpose and the location is on Poydras. Im guessing the Cosmopolitan Hotel Tower on Canal and Royal will be a future facadectomy too.

Lafitte is one of New Orleans' better looking projects. It looks like it was fixed up. Posted Image-This is the CP3.

That just looks third world. I've never seen projects that look THAT bad.

Part of the New Orleans you never see, and you never want to see in person if you're not familiar with the city. That's part of what makes New Orleans interesting, though not in a very favorable way. You can find yourself standing in the middle of some of the most desired, famous, historic, and vibrant neighborhoods in the nation, but as little as a mile away, you could swear you're looking at something in a third world country.

Very nice photos, Louisiana Thunder! I really like the last pano, you did an awesome job with that one. It looks like you covered quite a large chunk of New Orleans; it was nice to see some "different" views from the city.

Out of all the pics he/she posted, the top one looks the best, although I'm sure that's the inside.

Thx.  the pano didn't come out the way I expected it, I had a hard time putting the Quarters section in so I left it alone for now.  I went all over the city, the weather was nice, but it started to get hot, I also put on some boots, after walking for hours, urban hiking went down hill.  Next time I'll have the right gear and a clean lens. :silly:

I am a male, the church was open, I took a risk of going inside, (u know burning to a krisp instantly) I haven't been in since I was a teen, but the art work was impressive.  I took a few other shots inside.
