Makes the area seem almost desolate. At least the Boardwalk had a little character. I had some fun times there as a kid.

I agree.  Its certainly doesn't appear to have the feel I remember growing up.

Does anyone have anymore info on this project?

I don't know about the Boardwalk proposal, but I am really pumped about the Ocean Center expansion.

Santa Monica is to LA, the way DB is to Orlando (+30 miles).  interesting parallel.

Good lord even if I stand on my head, spin around a thousand times and squint my eyes, I still don't see that parallel. :D

no need to spin and squint.  DB is the closest boardwalk-esque community to ORL, except its much farther away than Santa Monica is from LA downtown.  THat was and is the extent of my comparison.

That's not a boardwalk!
Fifty feet of wood with a pier and a couple rides isn't a boardwalk.  They need to extend that thing the length of Daytona Beach and put some junky souvenier stores, pizza places, "games of skill", video gamerooms and fudge shops on it!

Looks like the leaders of Daytona need a trip to the real boardwalks of New Jersey and emulate.

PLEEEEASE NO!

Daytona is trying to get away from the run down cheap touristy look of a boardwalk. The little that remains will probably stay for nostalgic reasons, but please don't bring up expanding it.

It's kind of hard to catch sarcasm over the internet, isn't it?

While you're at it, why not build a replica of the Statue of Liberty and make DB the Liberty Island of the south?

LOL!!!

you guys crack me up.

IMO, when Volusia sees how much money can be made from hosting medium sized conventions (after the expansion is complete) I think they will continue to expand that thing, which will bring more decent hotels and really help transform DB.

Btw, what is the story behind the statue of liberty by Lake Ivanhoe? Why is it there?
