Hong Kong's Star Ferry Pier Demolished for New Development

I was surprised to run across this item today.  Surprised, but not really so.  Hong Kong is very slow to take stock of its architectural heritage and even slower at protecting it.  While not an outstanding example of architecture,  the pier had a certain charm.  Hong Kong will be the poorer without it.

Ritz-Carlton Closing- Will Be Replaced With Office Building

The Ritz-Carlton in central Victoria will close at the end of the year and will be replaced by another enormous office building.  While I did not stay here, I did go inside for a look.  Though it was attractive, it did not compare favorably to the Peninsula in Kowloon or even the Mandarin Oriental nearby.  Two new Ritz properties are being developed in Kowloon and Macau respectively.
