You actually subscribe to a newspaper? Think of all the trees that get cut down for that!

Isn't that what the phoenix serves as? Don't most towns have the once a week, all city/town info?

The Phoenix is more of an arts paper, though they do do well on covering news. I'm talking about a city daily though, not a weekly.

That being said, the newspaper market is really collapsing. More people are going to the internet, or TV, and I doubt the Providence metro can support two newspapers. Perhaps if more people started to use public transit there would be more of a demand, but most of those not already doing so can afford other things to keep occupied (see: iPhone). Once again, I could be wrong and another newspaper might get Rhode Islanders more interested in newspapers, and increase the base (like when a burger king is built near a McDonald's, the Mcdonald's sees an increase in business).

while more and more people are going to the internet, there's nothing like sitting down with a paper and flipping through. it's not as fun clicking links on webpages and trying to read 10 articles online (hurts the eyes after a while).

I long ago stopped buying papers and now I get all my news online. Since the projo.com redesign though there is very little projo content left online (or at least left where I can find it). I dont mind that its a statewide paper, but I hate it when they cover national stuff. Why waste space on national stories when there are a million other sources that do it better...
I would love to see another local paper. The phoenix does a decent job when it reports local, but even it is part of a chain and most of its stories are just regurgitated from other editions. I miss the New Paper! (And the Nice Paper for that matter). The Agenda is great, but again, just arts... I would like to see another hard news paper that stays local and can go toe to toe with the projo.

Me thinks the next step will be no Journal, no ProJo.com, no nothing. I'm hearing if they can sell their Providence property, the plan is to move to Warwick, I wonder if they'd become the Warwick Journal?

I've heard that as an option too, though that is also up for sale by Belo. I've also heard rumor of offices in a Downcity office building that currently has vacant space.
