A large tract of land bordering the central business district will be developed into a retail, office and residential complex. The site is surrounded buy East Market Street to the north, Pastor Anderson Way and a church to the west, Bennett College to the south and Dudley Street and the House of Prayer to the east. It was the site of the former main post office. NC A&T State University wanted to purchase the land for its expansion plans but The United House of Prayer for All People offered more money for the land.

It's great news to hear that this is moving forward!  The site is only 13 acres, so I wonder what type of retail is being proposed?  Because of it's proximity to a large population and placement on a major corridor whatever it is would do really well.  Pastor Anderson Way really should be spruced up, as well.  It's hidden access to downtown and it will run right under Railyard Park.  I'm not a TBJ subscriber, so I can't see the whole article.  Any renderings?

this type of develelopment is key to the transformation of east market and neighborhoods around A&T. im glad to see this move foward and hopefully it will help change East Greensboro to a more mixed-income community.

here is an update. If the plan proceeds forward, downtown will get a hotel after all :)

the latest plan includes hundreds of apartments, townhomes, a farmer's market and hotel. The church will decide  to move forward and when that happens, groundbreaking is expecting in the upcoming months.

The video on this link shows some nice renderings.

This will really help towards connecting NC A&T to downtown Greensboro.  This is great for the students and downtown Greensboro.  Can't wait to see the plans!

Its a great step for revitalizing the Eat Market Street Corridor, Once this development is complete im sure it will be annexed into the Central Business district. part of the plan includes a hotel.

I'm familiar with this general area. As is, A&T is only a little disconnected from downtown. It really wouldn't take much to have the urban core expanded toward that area.

in fact Ray Gibbs did mention that it wouldnt be out of the question if the central business district expanded eastward

we are getting closer to finding out what all will be in this. The organizers said nothing about this project will be traditional and that new styles and concepts will be introduced, unlike anything in Greensboro today. Sounds like a very exciting project and one that would eventually mean the annexation of this property into the central business district. This property is a block and a half east from the land being considered for the Greensboro Triumph Center.

Don't get too excited about this,  it will be very, very slow to develop.  Unless most of the property is sold off to private developers, not a lot of action will happen here, only talk.

We should find out ths evening or tommorrow morning what exactly these plans are. I do know that preliminary plans called for mid-rise flats and a hotel but I guess we will find out tonight what this multi-phase project is.
