The group known as Hanson packed the Hat Factory Wednesday night.  They were hugely popular as teeny-bopper musicians back in the '90's.

From one of the pictures accompanying this review, the audience appeared to be mostly of the feminine gender.

I just checked the Hat Factory site and they seem to have a busy schedule down there.  Lots of pre-Halloween spook-night attractions and their incredibly popular RVALUTION party every Tuesday.

Also, several nights of comics appearing on their stage.

The biggest name (at least to my limited knowledge of young entertainers) is TREY SONGZ this coming Sunday, September 19th.

THE HAT FACTORY is on the canal at Virginia Street a block off of Shockoe Slip.

Check out the club's website:  http://www.hatfactoryva.com

John M at RiverDistrict News says that a hot group called "Depressed Buttons" will head up a big new dance party on February 17th at The Hat Factory.

So, while the new destination restaurant/bar called OFF THE HOOKAH is taking up about half the commercial space in The Lady Bird Building, the HAT FACTORY continues to provide practically non-stop entertainment.

P.S.  If you go to the Leon Russell concert at The Hat Factory (or any other event), why not stop in at OFF THE HOOKAH and find out what all the fuss is about.

Both clubs are in the same building.

In its first season, RVALUTION attracted 20,000 to the Hat Factory over about a dozen weeks.

The 2011 edition begins Tuesday, June 7th and continues for eleven more Tuesdays.

The Hat Factory is on the canal at the foot of Virginia Street in Shockoe Slip and shares the building with Off The Hookah.

The Lady Bird Hat Factory building began its entertainment phase several years ago as Toads Place which was a spin off of New Haven's club of the same name.  Subsequently, it became The Hat Factory and changed its format to more of a partying venue while still booking in semi-name entertainers.

An adjacent restaurant called CURRENT and a swinging club called OFF THE HOOKAH share the building with a few business tenants.

But The Hat Factory has once again changed its name.  Henceforth, it will be known as THE EPIC THEATRE.

More infiormation as it becomes available.

Its website is:  http://www.epicva.com

I like "The Hat Factory" better.
I liked that it paid homage to its history.
Epic Theatre sounds a bit cheesy.

Well, the website is really flashy and modern (love contemporary :shades: ) and neat, but I kinda agree "Epic" is a bit too much.....

Coupe, do you think we should change the title of this thread to Clubs in Lady Bird Hat Building in order to keep up with new tenants and name changes?

Here is a story from today"s Richmond Biz Sense about the switch from Hat Factory to EPIC THEATRE.  The photo accompanying the story shows the canal-side facade of the building.  The EpicTheatre entrance is thru the double doors on the ground level.  A restaurant called CURRENT is also on that level.  A very popular club called OFF THE HOOKAH is on two or three levels and it also has a seasonal patio.

From today's Richmond biz sense:

http://www.richmondb...ic-proportions/

I'm going to post another story about EPIC below.

Richard Hayes has posted more about EPIC THEATRE,  If you click highlighted items in the story you can see before and after pictures of the venue.  The white and magenta swags are a bit too chi-chi (read "cheezy") IMO.
