Well if it's reality and not a myth, evidence of this jealousy should be plentiful but none has been presented.

See post #42 (for starters). I think you're looking for some type of detailed study or something, but of course that doesn't exist. For some, it's perceived and for some it's not. That's why I decided to initiate a discussion about it in the first place.

I've seen what KB is talking about, especially in the midwestern city data forums.

Well, here's your original post:

OK, we all know the South isn't perfect. Most of our cities, particularly the ones that can now be classified as "boomtowns," grew up during the age of the automobile and lack the density and urbanity of its previously-developed counterparts; we know this. However, does it appear as though the South's stellar economic performance as of late has made it the target of jealous insults and such? I want to go beyond what we see and read on messageboards such as UP to what the "average Joe" may be saying.
So I don't understand why you dismiss others' personal experience that does not support the jealousy hypothesis, which you base on message board postings, which you said you didn't want to do, but give as the only basis for your theory in post #42.

When have I dismissed anyone else's experiences? You are really the only one that has given any personal anecdotes to the contrary, and I never even addressed any of them. I challenge you to find any post in this thread where I have dismissed anyone else's experiences (not reasoning, but experiences) that don't line up with what I'm purporting here.

I said in my initial post that I wanted to go beyond message boards, not that they weren't relevant. You provided some of that, including your conversations with family, and I never dismissed any of that.

No not really.

Your response in #60 was what I had in mind.

That's why I'd be interested in reading the posts that prompted you to start the thread.  I scanned some of the Midwest city forums but didn't see anything about any rivalry or feelings about Southern counterparts.  You said you would 'of course' not link to them, is there a rule against it?  It would seem to be the easiest way without a lot of re-typing etc.  The reason I ask for this is because I'm curious if their statements were typical regional jabbing or specific jealousy for Southern urbanism, which seemed to be a distinction you were looking for in your original post.

I'm jeolous of every city south of the Minneapolis area - Des Moines, Omaha, Kansas City, Chicago, Nashville, Denver, Dallas, Phoenix, etc... If it's south of here, I can't stand it.

Well to dismiss the entire Southern USA would seem short sighted to me and really just sounds like you are doing nothing but bashing.   Next time, why don't you try to add something to the subject of the topic instead of taking the opportunity to piss on a region without any reasons given that we can discuss.

I am closing this topic as I warned I would above.    Sometimes I wonder why we bother with this site.
