Staunton is a small city located in the western part of Virginia, about 40 miles west of C'ville, 100 miles west of Richmond, and 150 miles SW of DC.  The city's population in 2000 was 23,853, with an area population of around 115,000.  The city has recently been experiencing a rapid increase in housing stock, with over 1,000 new site plans submitted to the city in 2005 alone (this, for a city which has just shy of 10,000 residential units).  The city's downtown is probably one of its most celebrated features, with millions invested during the past decade.  Projects have included a hotel restoration, streetscaping, several building restorations, and a new parking garage, which is pictured above.

I love the look of downtown, something you might see in the movies. Thanks for sharing.

Robin Miller (he is the owner of Monroe Properties) is also developing a huge $100 million+ mixed use town center development right in the middle of Staunton where the Old Western State hospital and old Staunton Correctional Center once were.  Many of the buildings are on the National Historic Register, and the main campus was designed by Thomas Jefferson.   Miller is adding buildings that will fit into to the existing architecture.  There will be condos, single family homes, apartments, shops, parks, recreation areas, etc.  Should be a very very nice development.  The goal is to link it to the existing downtown via pedestrian paths etc.

Here's the link:

Robin Miller does nice work... you should be pleased with the finished product on that larger project as well.

I'm very happy that he wants to expand his work into Staunton.  The Old Y condos are extremely nice.  I can only imagine what the larger project, with him at the helm, will do for the city.  I checked out some of his work in Richmond and Petersburg, and he seems to really know what he's doing.

Staunton  is "the coolest small town in Virginia" says Robin Miller.

Miller, in collaboration with his business parter, Dan Gecker, is turning the old Western State Hospital campus into a village.
