Any news on who the gunmen were?  I haven't seen much yet.  This is unspeakably sad.

Not much info yet. I'm a Tech alum, so it really wrenched my gut to hear this.

What's even worse is that local media is already playing up the "biggest school shooting in US History" angle. Have some decency, people.

This is gonna be a big topic so i'm gonna move this to a new thread (which is against my policy, I don't normally like threads devoted to criminal issues here but I think this is worthy of exception).

I'm sure they're just trying to convey how immense the situation is...

This is so horrible. I was at work this morning reading CNN.com and they said 1 was dead - which is bad enough - but to my shock to return and turn on the TV and see 22 dead was just devestating!

I have two good friends that were directly involved:
the first said that the initial dorm killing(s) were on her floor (the 4th) and she was rushed out to a different floor where it was barricaded.  The way she described it was just as pandemonium -- sheer chaos.

My second was a friend (older brother of a closer friend) who was in a small classroom --- he had to help barricade the door after the initial shots.

This is so horrible.  This is like the worst day ever.  VT has so many kids I went to school with and I've been scrambling to call all of them.

And let's just hope for the best...

I am shocked by these events and extend my condolances to anyone affected by today's tragic shootings. I know all my fellow friends and students at VCU are praying for the faculty and students at Virginia Tech.

My step sister is an engineering student, and it took me forever to get through and reach her.  Thankfully, she wasn't on campus, and was still at her apt about a mile from campus.  She may know several victims, but she isn't sure, and they aren't releasing any names.  My prayers are with everyone involved.

Gosh, I'm so sorry to hear this. This is unbelievable. What reason could a person have to kill over 30 people in cold blood?

There was obviously no reasoning done by the suspect.  The word on the street is that the guy was beaten to death... nevermind, he took his own life.
