Reinventing the Crescent
Goals of reinventing the crescent:
- Create North America’s greatest Riverfront.
- Improve the quality of life for residents by maximizing public access, open space and public use of the waterfront.
- Establish a symbol for the city of New Orleans that reflects its rich history, rebirth and promising future.
- Program the Riverfront to accommodate assorted uses and development that balance a continuous linear green space with more vibrant commercial and cultural attractions.
- Develop a focal point for the city that connects adjacent neighborhoods and gives them a shared sense of place while reinforcing their differences.
- Set a standard in environmentally sensitive design and site development guidelines that protect water and air quality.
- Provide a range of transportation options along and to the Riverfront including streetcars, ferries, water taxis, buses, and bicycle and pedestrian paths.
- Enhance the city’s economy by improving property values and diversifying the tax base.
- Bestow diverse populations with a common space reflecting an open and inclusive planning process and a sense of ownership in the agreed-upon vision.
