Has anyone received or have any experience with fighting the new real estate tax assessments?

They state that the assessed rate is valid market rate as of 12/31/06...  but the P&S i signed a month after that is for a full $30,000 below the assessed rate - clearly, one of us is badly misled and I know it's not me.

Anyone know how likely it is that the assessed value of my house can be dropped at the "appeal" meeting?

I got mine for my condo the other day, 15,000 less than what I just paid for it.  What's interesting to me is the unit downstairs (identical to mine, only first floor so no private balcony), got assessed at 6,000 higher than mine.  Who the hell does these things? First floors are always valued less than identical upper floors.

I would think you have a pretty good case given your situtation.

Simply take your purchage and sales agreement; along with a copy of the deed that was filed when you purchased your home, to the Tax Assessor's office and file an appeal.  If they deny you, tell them you will appeal the decision to the Board of Assessors.  You should be able to win your case as long as you provide the necessary evidence.
