Like so many other lists that come out, Rhode Island is close to the bottom.

Except for taxes of course, then we are top 10 material

What a stupid study. Comparing northeastern states with any other region in the country is like comparing apples and oranges. All the money they spent on doing that study could have been spent reducing traffic in North Carolina

Rhode Island’s roads among the nation’s worst. The state’s roads are in the third-worst condition in the nation, according to a new study by a national group of transportation officials.

Surprised, I am not.

Anyone who's gone down Route 44 between 100/102 and 5 through Glocester/Chepachet and Smithfield can easy tell you how horribly kept and designed some roads in RI are.  Route 6 between 101 and 295 is almost as horrible.

Would it be too much to ask to have 44/102 repaved through Chepachet?  Or at least get the potholes fixed?

44 in EP at the state line is almost funny. Cross the state line and wham, down into a pothole, right on the line.

None of this surprises me as you reap what you sow (sowe?, sew? so?). Projo had an article a few years ago that indicated Rhody was something like 46th in the country in per capita spending on road infrastructure (and in the top 10 in welfare spending). And it drives me batty whenever bad news comes out about Rhody that people defend it and say "oh, it is a national issue". Sure, it is a national issue, and Rhody is continually leading the lists of worst of the worst. The latest one was the child porn arrests. Fed's started the sting operation on this when they realized Rhody of course was a leader in child porn per capita consumption. Dios mio.
