I just posted this info in another thread, but this looks like the correct thread.  Demolition of City Hall Plaza is set to occur the week after Thanksgiving, and then construction will begin on the Courtyard by Marriott.  As I mentioned in the other thread, I think this project is going to add a lot to the Main at Broad intersection.  I'm super excited about this project!

Great! It's good to hear some dates on this project. There's a lot more going on downtown right now (or soon) than someone may realize at first.

Sorry - no photos, but...a sure sign that this thing is getting ready to get under way soon:  the briefcase sculpture in front of the plaza has been removed.

  Thanks for the investigative work. This will for sure help the West End and the rest of downtown (including Broad Street and Poinsett Corners). I say the West End because of the storefront gap between the Westin Poinsett and past the Peace Center. People continue walking past Court Square as it is, but this will help ensure that people don't consider turning around yet... I'm excited!

Has any mention of a tenant for some of the office space been announced? I was thinking that something had been mentioned, but I couldn't remember.

December 10th is Monday. Hopefully within a week a fence will be up and destruction will have begun.  :yahoo:

After I left Peace Center tonight, I walked through the plaza and it is definitely stripped down.  In addition, the two older municipal buildings beside the plaza are now empty.  One has a sign on the door, "Facility Closed".  Looks like demolition should start any moment.

Great news!  Thanks for the update.  I'm really looking forward to seeing this one begin.  It will really transform that intersection, as well as make a great impact along both Main and Broad Streets.

I am still curious to hear what the "high-end seafood restaurant" will be inside the Courtyard by Marriott.  We know it's not going to be The Boathouse (Charleston-based restaurant) because it will be located next to Falls Park.  Could it be McCormick & Schmick's?  What about Phillips?  Or will it be a local unknown?  Either way, I think there is a market for a nice seafood restaurant downtown and this will be a great location for it!

The hotel will be pretty nice, too. ;)

Keeping my fingers crossed for Phillips.  They are consistently good.
My last two visits to a M&S left me questioning why they have had such rapid growth.  The Orlando location at Mall of Millenia was filthy and their Beaverton location (in the home metro) was mediocre at best.  A shame.

Im pretty excited that the Peacock has started and now the Marriott is about to start.  I dont think we have had two good hotels being built at the same time like this before.  I like the Marriott's design better than the 'bigCock' though.

If it's an established chain, I'd put my money on McCormick & Schmick's, but don't rule out Legal, too.

Per TBA, yet another delay in a DT project. Demo not to begin until "sometime in January."

Sniff, sniff...       Do I smell another POM?

Nothing to sniff on this one.

I think we on the forums are our own worst enemy.  We "hear" a date (and most times these dates are not verified from the developer) and then get upset when one day passes after the date.  We've heard all along "after Dec 10", not "on Dec 10" for this project.  January is about three weeks after Dec 10 so makes sense.  Why would anyone start in the middle of the Christmas / New Year holiday?  Should it not start until April, then that would be a delay.

As far as the seafood restaurant, I know it's prolly not considered high end, but I would LOVE to see an A.W. Shucks up here. I've been around the world and ate at some of the best, but for some reason I'm in love with A.W. Shucks. Could be there full size scallops. Who knows.

Looks like they are getting ready to start the demolition.  There are some chain-link fence sections up on Broad street, the garage is blocked off, and I saw a guy removing the sconces on the fire department building the other day.
