Here is downtown Athens.  The pics of Athens focus on a very concentrated area (most were taken from the roof of  a parking garage), and there are no pics of UGA.
Here goes!

That concludes our short tour of a section of downtown Athens.  There were some UGA buildings visible if you know where to look, but I did not go on campus to take any snaps.  Hope you enjoyed the brief tour of Madison and Athens!

Thanls for posting these photos! I love Athens. I wish it was better represented here at UP and the photos of it are much appreciated.

It really does have quite a lot of character, doesn't it? I love the view from that garage. You should have gotten some UGA pics, but the city still looks great.

What were you in Athens & Madison for?

Thanks for the compliments!  Actually, there was no particular reason to go.  I suppose it was just to enjoy some tasty hot wings and knock back a cold one on a scorching hot summer day.  After living in Atlanta for 11 years, it is always nice to get out of town and swing by other places.  One of the things that makes Atlanta so great is its proximity to so many other great places.  Athens is a true blue college town, but even in the off-season (summer) it still has a lot of life in it.  It has such a compact but lively downtown that one could spend a whole day just checking out the shops there.  Madison is easily one of the top five small towns in Georgia, and anyone in Georgia who hasn't seen it should check it out!  As I mentioned in my thread, I didn't photograph the many wonderful old houses there.  The downtown area, plus the historic houses, makes it well worth a visit.
Perhaps I'll wait until late fall to take pics of UGA.  It will have more of an Ivy League collegiate feel.

I miss Athens already, and I just graduated from UGA 3 months ago!
