Roadtrip, last Saturday.  Went to Athens, then Madison.  Took a few snaps.  Hope you enjoy!
First, Madison.  Awesome town.  Really nicely restored.  The pics feature only a section of downtown; there are tons of pre-Civil War homes that were not photographed.
Here goes:

Thanks for posting these pictures. I don't think I've ever seen Madison before. It looks like such a charming old town. There seeems to be a real "Southern small town" feel to it. Some beautiful buildings. I love the court house and the mansion. The downtown area looks great as well. Very historic.

Glad I was able to give the world a glimpse of Madison.  I have to admit that I am still trying to figure Madison out.  The first thing you'll notice upon entering the town is the abnormally large number of huge, fully restored historic homes, some over $1,000,000.  Then you go downtown and see the high-end shops and restaurants.  You also see a lot of expensive European and Japanese luxury imports tooling around the streets.  There is a newly-opened high-end hotel downtown in the middle of a cluster of art galleries.  Then again, on the other side of the tracks (literally), there are the poor folks who seem to have been left at the station when the gravy train pulled off.  There is also a ton of new sprawl near US 278 and I-20.  I know the town is old because some of the tombstones at the main cemetary date back to the 1820s and before.  I'm just not sure where all the money came from.  Retired doctors and lawyers from Atlanta?  Retired pro golfers from Augusta?  I don't know, but the money seems to be circulating around that town pretty freely.  That makes it unique in that region of Georgia.

I used to love driving through Madison.  I don't know much about its history but there are definately some Atlanta expatriates running around there.  Great photos!
