well i find that alot of people like to squabble endlessly about how much bigger or better their skyline is going to be than anothers, blah blah blah. so i thought id start a thread so all georgia cities can honestly COMPARE and not argue over whose will be best or bigger, so we can all see in one spot the biggest tallest things your city recently has or will offer.

ill start with savannah -

recently completed:

8 story holiday inn express - bay street

6 story hilton garden inn - midtown abercorn

5 story sheraton 4 points - MLK blvd

soon to come:

2 10 - 11 story mixed use towers (condos, retail, hotel) - Savannah river landing

8 story luxury hotel - savannah river landing

at least four other midrises are in savannah river landing. not sure on exact number of stories, i counted anywhere from 7 - 9 depending on the building based on the tour video on the website.

So, lets see what th other georgia cities are up to in terms of skyline additions!

No highrises have been built in Augusta since the 18 floor Riverplace condos were built in Downtown in the early 90's.  In the mid 90's an 11 floor hotel and adjacent 7 floor office building were built and late 90's a 7 floor hotel (all in the same project and all along the riverfront) went up.  Several other midrise buildings went up in the Medical District and Suburbs in the late 90's but nothing over 6 floors.
In 2002 or 03 a 5 floor building for the Education department went up Downtown.
Last year 2, 5 floor buildings were built at MCG.
Projects under construction are a 5 floor Hilton Garden inn and a Sheraton Hotel (not sure of the height but Im sure either 5-6 floors).  Both UC and both in the burbs.  A rendering came out last year of a 6 floor Cambria suites hotel but Im not sure if that has started yet.

Soon to come-

2, 10 floor condo towers and adjecent hotel.  There are not details on the hotel other than it will have 150 rooms.  Since its Dowtown along the riverfront Id imagine it to have 6-8 floors.  The site is currently being cleaned up by the city.

20 floor judicial center.  This one has been talked about for several years now and since the original amount of the cost of the center has been reduced,  I dont imagine it will be 20 floors....more likely in the 12 floor range (guestimate).

Thats all I know of right now.  Not sure of the height of the new Library Downtown but it will have 100,000 sq.ft. of space so surely it will be a good 4-5 floors.

So far looks like all cities are getting about the same amount of growth,  with Savannah in the lead by just a little.  Looks like Savannah is getting alot of quality stuff Downtown.  Very interesting how all three cities, (Savannah, Macon and Augusta) have 2, 10 floor condo buildings proposed.   Im excited to hear what Columbus,  Athens, Valdosta, Brunswick and others have coming up.

Oh...should have noted.  So far Macon has the tallest UC right now with its 9 floor Cardio Center.  Interestingly,  University Hospital in Augusta just topped out its new Cardio Center last month BUT at only 4 floors.

All of the Columbus area buildings are going across the Chattahoochee River in Phenix City. There are 2 condo buildings that will be going up.

1) Phenix Rising - 11-12 stories
2) The Phoenix - 10 stories

Right.  Brunswick has some 10-12 highrises planned in the Liberty Harbor development.  Tallest ones I believe are at 20 floors.

Forgot to add the proposed 8-9 floor condo on Washinton Rd. in Augusta.  Originally,  the plan was for 17 floors but neighboring Augusta National went into an uproar and shot in down.  Will be a decent project for the burbs.

We just finished a virtual tour of Liberty Harbor - it has not been updated to the current version on their site yet - should be next week.

In the interim you can see it on ours by going here  - the only difference being they want to use the same song on their website, and we played with two other versions that you can see on ours

Thanks for the updates. How will these buildings relate to the street, and to the rest of downtown? Tall buildings are cool, but ones that provide a good urban environment are much cooler.
