Drove by the Amazon site yesterday (John Dodd Road and Interstate 26) and noticed the heavy equipment has already arrived.  It appears that construction, or at least the earth-moving part of the project, will be commencing very shortly.

As you have probably heard, BMW is investing $900 million in the Spartanburg plant and will create 300 jobs by the end of this year!  They're increasing production at the plant to 350,000 vehicles and will soon be producing the new X4 sports activity vehicle in addition to the current X3, X5, and X6.

Herald-Journal article

Edit: Now they're saying a total of 1,000 new jobs will be added over the next 3 years!  Even better!

Highland Baking Co. has purchased the former Mrs. Smith’s bakery at Hearon Circle for $4 million. The company will use the facility for its new baked goods distribution center.

County Councilman David Britt said the company’s proposed capital investment in the plant is for $11 million and he expects the project will create about 200 jobs.

As I'm sure many of you saw, Advance America has been sold for $780 million to Latin American lender Grupo Elektra.  They say the headquarters and all employees will remain in Spartanburg for the "foreseeable future."  However, as we saw with Extended Stay once they were bought, I wouldn't rely of them staying here long-term.

I think it's different in this case. The company acquiring Advance America is based in Mexico City and this lender has no U.S. presence. I think they'll stay put, at least in the short term.

Yep, drove by this last Sunday and site preparation is well underway.  Looks like they have their own concrete production equipment on site.  This facility is going to be big.
