I highly recommend Sullivan's. Its one of the few places you can get Irish food in the Upstate.

Here is a great summary of a recent Downtown Committeeof the city meeting.
Note: the first post is really the only one of interest. The remainder is largely local political bickering. I would suggest skipping it and just reading the opening post summary.
Highlights
... the streetscape project is continuing.
... Former Stine Gallery is being converted into a cigar bar and a jazz club.
... Former Hampton Furniture is being converted into another Irish Pub.
... Parking Deck is making good progress.
... Another parking deck is in the works.
... A downtown walking trail is in the works.
All good news.

There was an article in AIM a few days ago about the railroad spur that used to (still does) run UNDER downtown Anderson. It as garnered some interest as of late and one of the buildings that used to load from underneath has just been purchased. An old grocery store I think. Today it is a trophy seller.
I think the purchaser is the same guy responsible for the Chiqoula redevelopment. He is charmed by the defunct railroad underneath his building and mentioned his desire to utilize it somehow, perhaps an underground restaurant that incorporates it. Sounds like a good place for a pub.
This sort of creativity and interest is good to see in downtown Anderson.

Today's Anderson Independet Mail has a rather extensive article about the new businesses coming into downtown Anderson and has a few updates on some of the other notable projects such as the parking deck and the development of the former Belk site:

There was an article towards the end of last week that Doh Dah Cafe was moving shop out of downtown to Hwy 81 North. The article cited business lost during the streetscape improvements that led to the decision to relocate.
That little cafe was nice and ecclectic. Sorry they had to move to another part of the city.

Anderson's Downtown is really becoming a pretty cool destination (in spite of the economy). Check out this review of four new places to hang out.

The Chiquola project is the latest casualty of the bad economy. The building was foreclosed on, and the restaurant is losing money (again because of the economy). I really hate this for Anderson. The good news is that you can probably get a hell of a good deal on a downtown condo. They are going to be auctioned on October 6th.

This was not mentioned here, but the beautiful Sullivan's Metropolitan Grill located on Main Street closed its doors on September 12.
Additionally, while reading the article linked in the previous post, I noticed a link for an article about the closing of Charlie T's. That was a well-known place for many years, despite not being in downtown.
This nasty global economic recession has definitely affected our area.
