I just found out today that a HUGE 350 acre plot of land touching rt. 7 and the Loudoun county pkwy is being developed (and has alredy broken ground) on a massive smart growth town center called One Loudon. I is going to have 900 homes, 700000 sq feet of retail and !3,000,000! sq. feet of office space including.........ready..........a................ WORLD TRADE CENTER! one of only 230 in the world. It stands as an example of Virginia's wealth. it also will include in its downtown some luxury hotels, and will have its own elementary school. there are several of these projects going in around VA and MD, but this one will be much more upscale and will be anchored by the world trade center. the trade center will also help attract even more companies to Northern Virginia. I consider myself to be pretty up to date with new development in the area, but I managed to miss this one untill today. what do yo guys think?

The site plan looks... well... not so great.  The WTC is cool.  How many WTCs are in Virginia already?  There's one in Norfolk.  Is there one in Richmond or Northern Virginia somewhere?

The only one currently located in Virginia is in Norfolk.

Here are some details from the World Trade Center Organization Website

With principal offices in New York City, the World Trade Centers Association includes 241 affiliated organizations in 60 countries with a total membership of over 400,000 companies worldwide. World Trade Centers provide one-stop shopping in a region for international trade. The World Trade buildings usually house freight forwarders, customs brokers, international companies, and government agencies. Additional services include:

Office space for the international trading community;
Information and trade research services;
Consumer/business services (hotels, restaurants, banks);
Educational services (seminars, language training).

the architecture is a bit generic, but the overall plan is good.  In all honesty, this might be one of the better uses of the word town center...it really looks like one, and a dense one at that.

Sure looks like they ripped off City Center, minus the surrounding park.  Even the Hotel rendering looks the same.  Also notice the large pond in the center with office building surrounding the pond.  Looks very familiar.  How 'bout some originality.

We have one of the Federal Reserve Banks in Richmond, but no WTC... would be nice though.

It must be near Dulles Airport. That is the only reason I can think of why you'd put a WTC in Loudoun County....

yes. it is indeed next to the airport. 2 miles away. the southern end of the sight is about 500 yards away from the 'skins training camp. even though i dont live in loudoun co., it has to be said that it is becoming pretty world class. i was on the green way the other day and for almost the whole length from the airport to leesburg, there was continuous humanity. a far cry from 10 years ago. even in places like purcelville, there are tons of subdivisions now. i think i saw the largest house i've ever seen up that way. i thought it was a shopping center at first. lol. looking down the street a bit further, all the homes were of equal or comperable size. even thought there is nothing of real importance in the county, it has it's fair share of money, and things that come with it. BTW, it will even have metro soon.

anyway, this TC is unique because it is so large. when i went to go look at it, i made a right turn off of rt. 7 onto the loudoun county pkwy, where the property meets the intersection. i drove about a min. and a half at about 45 mph when i came to some trees and what i thought was the end of the sight. then about another min and a half later, i came to a large field with another "1L" ( their sloggan for one Loudoun) sign informing drivers that there was available office space, and next to it was construction equiptment. it is much larger than reston or VB TCs. it wont have the density or highrises that both of these have, but it will have many more housing units and shops etc.  IMO, Virginia beach TC is by far the most impressive of any TC i know of.

The colored regions represent each Federal Reserve District.

For example:

Quote

The Fifth District, which is headquartered in Richmond, VA, serves the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and most of West Virginia.
