Fight outside club endangers condo project

STRATFORD — A major condominium and marina development at the Harborside Restaurant may be in jeopardy after a melee erupted outside the restaurant's nightclub last weekend, spurring calls for the Town Council to rescind the project's approval. Stratford police were forced to summon help from several outside agencies — including Milford and State Police — when several large fights broke out in the parking lot outside the club and the surrounding area at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, resulting in 10 arrests.

As a condition of the project's approval, the town's Zoning Commission imposed a requirement that the nightclub be closed when the condos are ready to be occupied — but that's at least two years away.

Perhaps the most interesting this of this whole situation is... Harborside is one of the more (if not the most) upscale of the restaurants in the town.  And then they on the weekends sink to the lowest common denominator to get some more cash.  Ought to be one or the other.  I'm surprised they're allowing this as it is.

And having been to Harborside on an occasion and been past in on many others, I'm curious as to where they're putting these condos in comparison to the restaurant.  Cause right now there is a great view out onto the Housatonic River and towards the Sound and would be kinda bad if that was lost.

If I'm thinking of the right place, isn't there already condos and some marina right there?

I believe there's some small boat dock area near there.

Harborside shuts down it's nightclub operation for the second week in a row, but is still wanting to shoot themselves in the foot by wanting to re-open.

This place is just baffling.  They don't have control over their establishment on these nights, and that fact doesn't seem to bother them.  Yet they want to put more upscale development in an area right next to a nightclub, creating the ultimate culture clash.

My question is, if Harborside's management wants to run a nightclub in Stratford... is there a more suitable place in town for it?  And what will they do to make sure patrons are safe and not starting fights with each other?
