I love this church!  It's such a beautiful setting.  There is a story that it's haunted, and when I was in school up there we went up there very late at night (we were just looking around nothing else.)  Well, somehow an alarm got setoff and we all got the 'you know what' scared out of us!  We high-tailed back to to Boone!!   Ah, memories!!

A haunted church... I don't know if that's ironic or simply bizarre... nice!

Is there a history to this place?  I am always curious about how things began.

Is there a history to this place? I am always curious about how things began.

The story I always heard when I lived in the area (and I lived there for 12 yrs) was that one of the original preachers got involved in a sexual scandal and commited suicide inside the church. It is his spirit that haunts the church today. The church will not address this story, and I don't know if there is much to back this up. Based on the time period (turn of the century), this could have been covered up much easier than today...

Visit Boone page, small snippet about haunting at bottom of page

Link to Haunted Heritage on Google Book Search, much more detailed about the legend..

Hey!  I've been to Plymouth!  I actually did a research project on it last year - I interviewed the local historian (who actually went to Duke *boooo!* :)) and toured the town.  Not many people know about it, but I think that is changing.  The lumber mills in the town are nearly shut down, so the economy is trying to switch to the tourist industry.

A friend and I were in Boone for a couple days snowboarding (up from Greenville, SC) and this was the view from Blowing Rock as we were leaving.
