PROJO:  "Belvedere building proposal expanded

BRISTOL — Brenton Realty Investments has expanded the size of a proposed new building on Thames Street as part of its Belvedere at Bristol development, increasing the amount of commercial space to 7,000 square feet, from 2,400 square feet, and the number of residential units to 10, from 6. The change has been presented to the town’s Historic District Commission and Planning Board in recent weeks but still awaits approval from both groups and the Zoning Board of Review. The New York-based company drew up plans for a larger building after purchasing a lot at Thames and State streets this year that was not originally part of the project. The corner parcel abuts vacant land owned by Brenton Realty, and with the purchase the company has room to put up a much larger, three-story building along Thames Street. If the amended plans for the building are approved, the Belvedere at Bristol would have 28 total residential units: 14 in the former Harriet Bradford Inn, the centerpiece of the project; 2 in a neighboring carriage house; 2 in a house on John Street purchased this year; and the 10 in the new L-shaped building. In addition to the commercial space in the new building, the ground floor of the Harriet Bradford would also contain a restaurant."
