PROJO:  "Melville seeks permission for Weaver dredging

PORTSMOUTH — Melville Associates, LLP, a subsidiary of O’Neill Properties Group, is seeking permission from the state Department of Environmental Management to dredge about 50,600 cubic yards of sediment from Weaver Cove, where the company plans to build a marina with 1,495 slips — the largest in New England. Edward T. Lopes, a spokesman for O’Neill, said recently that there appears to be no environmental problems connected with the dredging. A DEM spokeswoman agreed. Lopes said clean fill from the dredging might be used as capping material for soil that is “not so clean” at another nearby O’Neill site, the former Weyerhaeuser property, where the developer plans a high-end residential and recreational development, including a second marina. O’Neill has not yet submitted a master plan to the town Planning Board for the Weaver Cove site, which is to be a “marina village,” with townhouses and condominiums, as well as a yacht club, yacht brokers and other commercial interests supporting a maritime lifestyle."

^O'Neill has said that construction would begin on this in "fall of '07," so it looks to be right on schedule.  I look forward to this project going forward, as it fulfills a major part of the West Side master plan, and would likely hasten further inprovements to the Burma Rd. corridor, as called for in the master plan.
