I will be traveling to France in December. Our plan is to visit Nice, Marseille, Avignon, Arles and Cannes. Any thoughts or picures from anyone? I'm sure the weather will be better than in Paris, but it will still be winter. Will be getting around mostly via the TGV.

It's sounds like a city-journey because the winter is indeed not the best season to dive around the Golden Islands, only Menton is never freezing.
All those cities you mention can be reached with the TGV, also Nīmes, the "French Rome". The fact is that a lot of sites around the cities are worth visiting and I don't know which are your tastes, and there are tons of museums, particularly on the Riviera.
Between Nīmes and Avignon is the Pont du Gard, between Avignon and Arles stand the amazing dead-town of Les Baux. This December, there is the 50th international Santons fair in Arles (in three places : Saint-Trophime Cloister, Ste-Anne Chapel and Eglise des Trinitaires). Marseille is just a great working site at the moment and the Longchamp Palace (musée des Beaux-Arts) is closed. Among the perched villages on the riviera, the most famous is Eze. You may visit Vallauris near Cannes. The weather is sunny in Provence these days. Have a nice trip !
