From what I understand, the Proctor has turned over ownership of some of their stores, but they will continue to operate as they do, perhaps with a different name on the building (i.e. Not "Proctor" ______ ). I would don't think it would be economically wise to tear down two New High Quality Buildings to put up a Home Depot. Maybe the proctors own some additional land in that area that will be converted into a Home Depot. I could see them using the current GMC, Pontiac, Buick store for something such as this (Home Depot), but not the new Hummer and Caddy store.
Hummer:

Cadillac:

Both: (Sorry about the pic)

Edited to add: Didn't the article in the paper state that University Chevrolet was moving everything they bought from Proctor, except for the Hummer dealership, across the street to their existing facility? I guess that frees up quite a bit of land that I don't see sitting vacant for long.

Is Proctor bowing out of the automotive business all together or are they going to pursue a different brand of cars??

Proctors sell GM franchises
They are only selling the GM lines and are maintaining ownership of the Honda and Acura lines.
To start, the Hummer dealership will be leased to University. No plans have been made for the current GMC dealership.

One would imagine the Champion/University people would lease the buildings for both Cadillac and Hummer and continue to operate from that location and move the GMC/Buick/Pontiac/Sabb operation over to the Tajmahal University Dealership. They would move all Chevy products over to Champion. And Proctor would sell the old store on Mahan to the Home Depot people. Thats what I would do.
Sounds to me like Proctor would like to pursue imports now, perhaps they may challenge Less Akers/Peter Boulware for the Lexus franchise that will be awarded in Tallahassee soon.

Looking at the site plan at Staubach Retail, it could be possible for an Acura Dealership to be located where the current Hummer Dealership was based on those buildings being left alone.

For me personally, I'm a fan of having all the car dealerships in one area, so I'm not a fan of this proposal. It also for me makes it easier to shop for cars w/all the dealerships in the same area.

I think having dealerships together makes for easier shopping. We do have a few dealerships spread out on this side of town, but I think it is only due to land availabilty. I am sure it helps with service by having some on this side of town. As for Acura, I myself will never have interest in owning one. They are nice cars, but just not of interest to me. I like the idea of a Target going there though. However, if that were to happen, I think it would need to be the Super Target and not just another standard Target. All I am certain of is that the signs have said "Under Contract" for several months and nothing has transpired including site plans being submitted to the county.

FYI - The Acura dealership is going in on CSNE in the location that housed the Caddy/Hummer dealerships. They will be making the move in mid 2009. One good thing about this move is everyone that owns a Honda will be able to get service/warrenty work done at the Acura location. This will keep me from having to take the wifes van (Chick Magnet) to West Tennessee St. for service.
