I've noticed when travelling north (or east?) on I-520, headed towards the Sav River & the Palmetto Parkway, there's numerous factories & plants located to my right.

Who are these companies, what to they make & how do they contribute to the economy/lifestyle of the area?

PCS Nitrogen - ammonia & ammonia-based products (fertilizer); DSM Chemicals - caprolactam (plastics) & ammonium sulfate (fertilizer); Kimberly-Clark's Beech Island Plant - tissue paper & baby wipe products; and SCE&G's Urquhart Plant in Beech Island - power.

All those plants have been there a long time, and they contribute to maintaining chemical/power/manufacturing jobs in the CSRA.

Add International Paper and Olin Chemical to that list, but they are located south of the Augusta airport (not seen from I-520).

Hope that answers your curiosity!
