Wow, I'm surprised a topic hasn't been started yet. The media is all over this one :camera: . The mayor has been caught lying while on trial, under oath. Mayor kilpatrick and his family have "escaped" to florida but as soon as media caught up with him there he was on the move. Why is our "leader" running?? :shades:

Hopefully he is out of the picture quickly, and Detroit can have a new mayor.  I think anyone reasonably competent could have done the good the mayor did, but without the scandals.

And the scandals weren't even good ones.  It's not like he was doing something shady to bring developers or federal money to the city.

One thing I want to know, is why the Free Press did this? For as long as I remember, they have tried to bring the mayor down, and this time I think they succeeded.

The public has a right to know and traditionally, the media is the source of that information.  I understand your confusion because our society defines the media through its overuse of scare tactics and Britney Spearisms.  It's the fault of the media that they are viewed that way, but every now and then, they'll go back to the original purpose of themselves and present stories such as this.

Don't forget the dead strippers, the ones from the party that "didn't happen, didn't happen, didn't happen."

Interesting stuff on the Freep's website. They explain that the decision came down, Kwame vowed to fight it...and suddenly decided to settle with the officers, to the tune of $9M from the municipal coffers. Not having just fallen off the tater truck, the Freepies said, "wonder why that would be?" and started digging.

[very proud of my favorite newspaper]

By the way, who runs the city every time he runs away?

I'm praying this idiot resigns. Beaty or whatever her name is already did. I think it would be the appropriate thing for him to do.

Why is everyone hoping and waiting for him to resign?  Can't he be removed somehow legally (recall, censure, fired, etc.)?

After this mess, I'd be surprised if he wasn't recalled.

I believe he can be recalled and, at this point, I'd be shocked if he wasn't.

The Kilpatrick administration knows how to avoid the law.  That's why we haven't heard from him yet.  He's crafting his strategy that will put him on top with no consequence.  Ok, maybe he will lose his law license.

In reality, city council, led by Joann Watson and Monica Conyers, two mice who are "playing while the cat (Ken Cockrel) is away" decided that they want to meddle in the pig pen that is the city hall scandal.  Can't they at least wait until there is further investigation from the bodies that are obligated to investigate?  Also, the city unions (at least the main one anyway) is going to be picketing in front of the Spirit of Detroit on Wednesday around 4 pm.

Either way, the tone right now is that he did nothing wrong and legal investigations are going to be the only way anthing from here on out will materialize.  We haven't head a peep from the mayor because there's a way out for him and he's making sure that's going to happen.  The minute he talks is the minute he begins his potential fall and that's why we'll all here scratching our heads.

As chief of staff, Christine was in charge. And the Freep states, "Deputy Mayor Anthony Adams, who has served in that position for three years under Kilpatrick, is handling the mayor's duties."

K2 is The Boss. (Detroit has a strong mayor government, unlike GR's with our city manager.) There's no one to call him in and hand him a few big boxes for his stuff.

Council can vote to censure him, but they can't pull the plug.

If he doesn't resign, it would take a recall election. And he would fight that tooth and nail, therebay wasting even more of the city's money.

Of course, a criminal indictment might preclude his continued service as mayor.

[my money is on his resignation]

If the voters were stupid enough to elect this guy, do you really think they have high enough standards to start a recall

Can we not forget that in previous threads we have been praising this mayor for his efforts. Don't forget he negotiated the Book-cadillac, Quicken Loans, Cadillac Center, Neighborhood Initiatives, regional cooperation on Cobo and Transit, and much more. Detroit can't have a better mayor at this point. All the sudden we turn against him for a personal problem as if he's been an ineffective mayor all along. Thank God for what you have or else you'll see people like JoAnn Watson taking over.

Not me, from the word jump I was saying how corrupt, and to be honest STUPID I thought he was.  He likes to ride on the coat tails of others when it comes to boasting about his achievments too.
