By the way what is the largest mall in the south besides the Houston Galleria excluding hotel or office space, I know Riverchase Galleria in Birmingham is listed as the largest mixed-use project in the Southeast at 2.4 mil, but the property owner's websites only lists it at 1.55 million.  I'm assuming that 2.4 million includes the Wynfrey hotel and 17 story office tower, but the mall of Georgia feels so much bigger to me and it has many more stores.

The 1.55 million, I thought it was 1.7 hmmm, is referring to JUST the mall portion.  I think there's a mall in Ft. Lauderdale that is the largest.  I'm not sure though.  Anyways, I'm pretty sure that the Riverchase Galleria is larger than the Mall of GA even in terms of just the mall portion.  But, don't have all the figures so I'm not sure.  The Mall of GA does feel larger, but that might be because you're so used to the Riverchase Galleria.

I'm not sure if it is 1.7 mil or 1.55 mill for the Galleria,  I thought it was 1.7 but the property owner lists 1.5, the site may just not be updated.  The mall of Georgia has approximately 1.8 mil of mall retail space and approximately 230-240 stores where as the Galleria lists approximately 200+ stores.  They are both similar in size,  I guess the galleria is still bigger than I thought because I am so used to it but mall of GA still definitely feels bigger and has more stores, but the 2.4 million square feet of retail for the galleria is misleading because it would be the 8th largest mall in the US if malls are judged with hotel and office space included. Same with bridgestreet in Huntsville, I think they include the Westin and the office tower as part of the retail space of the project.  Yes Ft. Lauderdale and Miami have Sawgrass Mills and Ventura Malls respectively which are the fourth and seventh largest malls in the US.  The website below lists the largest malls in the US.  The Houston galleria is 8th according to this list.

I'll put a nod in for the Mall at Millenia in Orlando.

The Mall of Georgia is great also, I just bought some new shades from there a couple of months ago  :shades:

Kentucky Oaks Mall in Paducah, KY is the best pound for pound mall I have ever been to. It's not the largest or the newest mall, but it has been well maintained, managed, and re-developed constantly over the years to keep its retail mix to about the most attractive and useful of any mall I have been to for it's size. It's the regional mall for parts of four states as well, so this may have played a factor in it's ability to maintain it's lure and attractiveness for the last 30+ years.

Florida

Aventura (just north of Miami)- I went just before xmas, it took me almost 2hrs to park. That was a nightmere but I thought it was a really good mall.

International Plaza (Tampa, FL)- Expensive but a very good mall.

Mall at Millinea- The best mall I've been too in Orlando but I think it is a little overrated.

Lincoln Rd Mall (Miami Beach)- I don't know if it is really a mall or not but it was a very unique and interesting place.

I wouldn't rank the Bal Harbour Shops as being one of the best malls in Florida unless you're exceedingly wealthy. Here are just two of the cars I saw in the parking lot...

It was among the better malls in the state until about five years ago.  Things fall apart.

I just went to Millenium Mall in Orlando this past weekend. It does not beat out Short Pump Town Center in Richmond, VA in terms of aesthetics or store quality.

Tysons I & II are both pretty dang cool. My vote goes to The Streets at Southpoint in Durham. It is one of the most beautiful malls I have ever laid eyes on.

I believe the largest mall in South Carolina is Coastal Grand in Myrtle Beach.

No, the largest mall in SC is actually Haywood at midway between 1.2 million and 1.3 million square feet.
http://www.simon.com...eet/Haywood.pdf

Coastal Grand is currently 1.1 million.  It does have long range plans to add on and increase size to 1.5 million.  It isn't there now though.  Haywood tops Coastal Grand by about 150,000 sq ft.
