FOX Affiliate Coming to Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — Gormally Broadcasting LLC recently announced a March 31 launch of FOX6, a FOX network affiliate, for the Greater Springfield market. John J. Gormally, president of Gormally Broadcasting, noted that FOX6 Springfield will provide the same network programs offered by FOX61 in Hartford. Gormally added that the new station will be locally produced and feature a local news team providing a nightly news program at 10 p.m. Gormally is publisher of BusinessWest, a monthly newspaper based in Springfield, and owner of abc40, WGGB-TV. Gormally expects that FOX6 and abc40 WGGB-TV will complement each other with a "rich platform to serve viewers, advertisers, and the community."

Looks like a nice addition for Springfield. Also this looks linke another stitch in the fabric that pulls Hartford-Springfield together as one greater city.

What do you mean? I actually hate whenever they stop having to watch Hartford stations in Springfield. I think that by getting their own station it's more like they are breaking away from the Hartford region, or trying to. Not that it really matters, they can't really get away from us   , but I always liked knowing they were a captive part of our media market.

Sounds like it will be a setup like the CBS and Fox affiliates in Providence. The CBS affiliate in Providence does the 10 o'clock news for the Fox affiliate. I imagine 'GGB will be doing a 10 o'clock news for FOX6 to compete with the Hartford Fox station.

I would just assume this new Fox would replace 61 from Hartford, not compete.
