The Development Authority of Richmond County is expected to make a major announcement today.  Bass Pro Shops which has been trying to find a place here for years will make its home at the Village at Riverwatch lifestyle center.  I was hoping they would pick this location.

As of right now it's scheduled to open in the fall of 2009.

Here's the article
Bass Pro Shops to announce Augusta plans
outdoor retailer Bass Pro Shops will locate a store in the proposed Village at Riverwatch development near the intersection of River Watch Parkway and Interstate 20.

I-20 going through augusta is going to be on another level soon. They said the site is 170 acres thats a good bit of land. Great news though

Any word on when construction will begin? I've been waiting so long for this project I have become dubious.

Also, it would be cool if they had a pedestrian bridge to the walkway along the canal.

You shouldn't worry it's going to get built.  Those developers didn't spend all of that money on the land and on grading for it not to be.  I think everything will fall into place now.  I'm just interested in seeing what other stores are coming.

I agree, they need to have access to the walkway along the canal.  A picnic area would also be nice.

I agree with PJA.  Take a look at Augusta Exchange.  How long did it take for them to finally get that off the ground?  It was cleared and graded and left for several years....enough time to grow small trees,  then finally developed.  I think this project will get jumpstarted now that Bass is coming.

Bass Pro should make a difference. They located a store near Montgomery a couple
 years ago.
Once they announced, the site was on the fast track.
Since they've opened, they've built Target, Home Depot (which had been proposed about 5 years earlier)
and all the supporting stores. The lifestyle center is currently under construction with Belks and JCPenney.

a few weeks ago, the Chronicle had a story that construction had started @ the village of Riverwatch, an would now be fast-tracked.

I drove by there yesterday (the back parking lot of Comcast) and there wasn't a construction vehicle in sight, or any sign of human activity.

Is this project finally dead?

Walter Sprouse, who is Richmond County's development director, said the concrete slab in the Village of Riverwatch that will sprout Augusta's Bass Pro Shop will be laid within the next 60 days – basically when the weather allows it. The Development Authority of Richmond County brokered the deal that got the outdoor retailer to locate in Augusta.

Good news for Bass Pro Shop fans

I thought I noticed yesterday they had done some work (if just very little) at that site when I drove by on 20.  They had placed PVC like poles with varying heights all around the property....dont remember seeing this before.
