The day we can get the good ole boy network out of power is the day that our state will reach its potential. We could be so much better economically than we are.

There is no reason that we couldn't keep them under control in South Carolina if our legislators were totally honest and not part of the 'good ole boy' network.

Umm... so if the mob is not here, we should encourage them to come back in?

That's a terrible idea. Those machines were horrible. Banning them is one of the best things South Carolina ever did.

No it was the worst thing and the people wants it back in our state. Other states are getting serious money with casinos and local poker places our state needs the money and video poker can do it. i just recently got back from the Bahamas and see the money they make there. i played Casino on the Carnival Ship and it was fun and Money was like flowing everywhere. its sad when i have to travel out of state nay Country just to play Poker and Slots. SC is missing out. and i will give it about 2 years i think we will have it back. if you dont want to Play then dont play. its your chose but let people wants to play PLAY :D PLAY ON SOUTH CAROLINA.

Video poker would be a welcome revenue source for the state, but at what cost? With a few exceptions, casinos and gaming are often the hallmarks of economically challenged areas. They also come with some serious negative consequences that must be taken into consideration. Casinos appear glitzy and cosmopolitan to the casual user, but a very distinct underworld accompanies the glamour. If regulated properly and reasonable steps are taken to mitigate the ills, gaming could be a net positive, but I hope South Carolina looks to other options before bringing back video poker or expanding gaming.

Robert Ford, Democratic candidate for Governor, campaigned mainly on a platform of video poker to cure our state's budget issues.  The people have spoken and they are not for bringing back video poker.  I think the negatives greatly out way the positives.

I wanted Robert Ford in also becuase of video poker but i have Faith that Shaheen will probably bring that idea to the Statehouse in the Near future if he becomes Governor.

PS i voted for Shaheen.

We had Video Poker before and all it did was create more convenience stores.  We already lead the nation in those,BTW. Poor people pour their money into those things, making a small handful of people wealthy at their expense.  Society then PAYS for the damage via the social welfare and criminal justice systems.

s

Gambling is for economic development losers like Atlantic City and Mississippi.  Fools gold is all it is.

Casinos are not Video poker parlors.  You will never get a casino approved in SC.  Too bible belt.  Video poker only add convenience stores and tacky V.p. parlors.  Been there, done that, not doing it again.

Nevada has legalized prostitution too.  That makes a lot of money too.

Exactly. If we're talking about true casinos, then it's slightly different. I would still rather not have them, but I could get on board with that over video poker.

If we're going to get additional revenues in South Carolina, I would rather it be from real business, not gambling. I hope that I live to see the day where tourism is no longer our #1 industry.
