Just a warning: this thread will not devolve into "which city has the highest average temperatures" or anything like that. Let's keep it on topic (the slogan and the new marketing campaign).

Thanks to Paris Hilton, the word "HOT" can be used to describe just about anything.:silly:

One meaning of "reeling" is "whirling."  Another one is "drawing in" as in reeling in.  A major fishing tackle company has just chosen Columbia as its headquarters.

We have so many life pleaures here and we're drawing in more all the time.

I've got it!

Columbia Riverbanks Region, Reeling in the Pleasures of Life

But, "reeling" also means to fall back (as from a blow), or to feel great hardship.  Like:  "Still reeling from the heat in Columbia, the conventioneer said it would be his last time in this 'famously hot' city."

Reeling doesn't have that meaning in relation to the pleasures of life, though.

I know, but it is the first meaning of "reeling" I think of when used as a verb.  Also, some of us consider fishing to be quite UNpleasant  :P .

So I'm not the perfect slogan crafter.

Count me as one who likes the new slogan.

Amen to that; I can think of no more boring way to pass a day.

^That's the Yankee in you talking, Matt. :P I grew up going fishing with my grandmother and great-aunt. I thought it was boring then (when I was younger), but I've grown to really appreciate it.

Wow, I'm impressed! "Famosly Hot - Surpisingly Cool". Would including the 2nd half sound too forced? Or are the days over when nobody over 50 (or 40 even?) could pull it off?

I think that would be a good addition to the slogan.

It would be nice to see "surprisingly cool" officially added as well. Again, you've gotta love the wordplay.

I like the slogan, but I think the commercial is a total ripoff of the Ethan Allen commercial.

What does everyone else think?

The ads are similar, but this is not an uncommon advertising type so I wouldn't say it was a rip off of the Ethan Allen commercial.

Looks as though the new slogan is starting to gain some traction. Local business leaders seem pleased, and the Midlands Authority for Conventions, Sports & Tourism is placing ads featuring the new marketing push in two prominent Southeast publications: Southern Living and Atlanta magazines.

Columbia is getting hotter.  And everyone has the right to use the new slogan now.  I didn't realize I wasn't supposed to be using it already.

I was watching the Charlotte local news... I think it was WBT... anyway, they had a commercial advertising Columbia on there. I didn't realize what I was watching (wasn't paying attention to the ad) until the end when they used the Famously Hot banner. It's good to see the marketing in action though.

I tried posting this in the Famously Hot forum, but that forum is locked with a link to a forum the topic was already being discussed in (maybe this forum), but when I clicked on the link nothing happened, several times, so I'm posting it here.  Columbia's "Famously Hot" slogan just won the Governor's Cup award at a tourism convention in Myrtle Beach.

I moved it for you. When we upgraded the forum software it changed a lot of the links, unfortunately.
