According to the Commercial Appeal, work will finally start this October on the Barboro Alley Flats or better known as the "Hole in the Ground" at Main and Gayoso.  The development will also have a parking garage open to the public.  Link is below.

What is the final design? In other words, how craptacular/cheap does it look compared with the other possibilities that could've been used?

I couldn't find a design.  But I think I know what you mean by cheap because the last design was down right horrible.  So hopefully things will be changed because I think this is a new group behind this project.

Remember the Vue on Main?  This was the design for a while until Nashoba Group group abandoned the idea in 2006.  Many more stories and a much nicer design, but the mixed apartment/condo/office market declined.

Hope this turns out to be a nice addition to Main Street, albeit not nearly as imposing and impressive as earlier proposals.

Can't say it looks like much, but it doesn't appear to be the original design at least.

Good news: the building is finally topped out. MBJ: http://memphis.bizjo...14/daily15.html and CA: http://www.commercia...the-main-event/

Still would have liked this project to have been the 28-story Vue on Main, but given the downtown, this should fill in the "hole on Main" nicely.
