Having Obama's acceptance speech at "Bank of America" stadium isn't going to look good in the eyes of the Occupy Wall Street folks. It projects the image that Obama is really cozy with the banks. Security will have to be stepped up. Labor unions also aren't pleased that the DNC is being held in North Carolina.

Well it depends on which "Occupy Wallstreet" folks you're talking about. Half of them don't even know what they are protesting.

Using Bank of America Stadium isn't even a sure thing, from all of Charlotte's media everything is pointing towards TWC Arena.

True, they are protesting so much different stuff, there has to be something in that that suits everyone.  There is even some teaparty agenda being covered.

I know it's nothing new in Charlotte, but it's such a sad sign that we segregate ourselves based on our politics. We'll never learn from each other, we'll never hear a dissenting opinion, we'll never grow to understand each other if we live in these political bubbles. Charlotte has a long, long way to go before it stops being the "old south."

Image is the O's map - blue showing Democrat won districts for Mayor Foxx, and red showing Republican.

Yeah, I took note of that map yesterday.  Unfortunately, you can find that kind of segregation all over this country.  Mecklenburg is California and the Southpark/Ballantyne area is our own little Orange County.

^ Surprisingly to me South Park isn't bright red like Ballantyne, and I've seen plenty of Scott what his face yard sign all over South Park.

Anyone seen the multiple Marine helicopters flying over the city lately?  Maybe someone can confirm, but I think this is a little advance work before the DNC.  Three are flying around uptown today.

They've been freaking me out. The best guess in our office was DNC prep, but no journalism source in the area seems to be asking the question that everyone around Uptown has been wondering. Queue "Ride of the Valkyries"

I remember going to DC and seeing helicopters flying EVERYWHERE! It definitely gives you an odd feeling.

They have been flying very low.  I figure either exercises or else they are imaging the area, but obviously it is related to the DNC.

Is all the uptown street-paving going on right now being done for the DNC?

Well, the rumors are now official: the Transit Center is being relocated to distant Third Ward at the corner of 3rd and Mint during the DNC. It's expected that LRT service will end at Stonewall Street. As if the DNC wasn't already disruptive enough. I sure hope CATS isn't footing the bill for this undertaking.

Question: If I'm not attending any particular DNC event, but I live nearby and want to just ride my bike uptown to check out the chaos, do the helmet and backpack rules apply to me as I just ride down the street? And are any streets going to be closed or have checkpoints? I know most people are going to stay as far away as possible that week but I'm going to be too curious, and plan on riding my bike to work that week anyway to avoid traffic.
