I don't think 2009 is going to be a stellar year for development anywhere in the nation really, but there's still some things I'd like to see:

1. Center Vista breaks ground.
2. Tenants are found for the Palmetto Center.
3. Renovations begin on 1441 Main (new Midlands HQs for Wells Fargo).
4. More retail comes to Main.
5. Innovista lands more tenants.
6. Preliminary work begins on the new Riverfront Park.
7. Something, ANYTHING happens with the Bull Street campus.
8. More retail comes to Lady.
9. Work begins on CanalFront.
10. A big economic development is announced.

The realist in me doesn't feel that many of your wishes will come true.

Sorry.

But playing along...

1) Finish the North Main road repairs.
2) Fix the sewer plant.
3) Revitalize hyatt Park area
4) Put brick facades on CanalPlace
5) Develop some of the vacant lots on Huger between Blossom and Gervais
6) Olympia revitalization
7) Mill village at west end of Gervais Street bridge revitalization

I think they've sold a few more units.

Maybe if they painted it a better set of colors and fixed the roads around it it would be more appealing....  Just a thought.  And yea, I know there's a recession.

Its at least partially the market. They finished right about the time the market started to tank. I think that over time, especially as Innovista takes off, it will fill in nicely.

What, you don't like Neapolitan Ice Cream?

And I agree, Spartan, I think the biggest thing on my Wish List for this year is for Innovista to get more large corporate tenants.

^  I agree.  If Innovista takes off, everything else will follow.

Hopefully having the National Hydrogen Association's annual meeting in Columbia this year will results in some tenants for Innovista.

9. Work begins on CanalFront.
10. A big economic development is announced.
So it's the end of 2009. Let's see what has/has not happened.

1. No. There were plans to break the project up into two phases with the first consisting of renovations to the Columbia Supply Building and the second being new construction of the 5-story building, but I don't even know if the first phase will happen. Plus, the website is down. Maybe the project will be revived within a year or two depending on credit markets.

2. Sadly, no.

3. Completed. The glass sculpture at the top was scrapped, but the building looks so much better at ground level now.

4. Nothing actually opened (I think), but the Mast General store announcement was a very positive step in this regard.

5. Seems like Innovista is regressing instead of progressing. Bad year for this development.

6. No. I think funding may still be an issue.

7. No dirt turned, but some positive things have happened.

8. Nothing opened, but retail spaces are available on the ground floor of the Lofts at Printers Square on Lady. So progress has been made on that front.

9. Yes.

10. Nothing big like Boeing, but the Trulite announcement, with the potential of up to 1,000 jobs, was a good one.

10.  The Nick makes it's move NO, but soon.

Well, it looks like the recession had quite an impact on my list.
