Anyone have an update on Brown Street's makeover?

City workers are doing storm water drainage work during the first phase of the project, Miller said. That part should be completed by mid-November.

Then beginning in January, work will begin on streetscaping. The work should take about eight months.

Source: http://www.journalwa...gets-a-makeover I noticed them doing drainage work on Brown Street a few weeks ago so it looks like everything is moving forward on time. :)

Thanks! This is going to be such a GREAT improvement and another dimension for DT. 8 months is a long time, but I think it must speak to the scope of the project...

FINALLY!

The landscaping for the Woodruff Road grass medians has now been installed. Rock gravel with several trees in each median.

In other news, the improvement project for Highway 276 in Mauldin has been delayed until Spring 2011 due to bids coming in over-budget.

-To jump-start the Church Street improvement project, the City of Greenville will sign an agreement with the SCDOT saying they will pay for any cost over-runs: http://www.greenvill...010/Item14g.pdf Current amount of money budgeted for the project is $5,100,000.

-Apparently, the Salters Road widening project has started construction according to this except from a recent Greenville News article regarding the I-85/I-385 interchange improvement project:

Sumerel said he believes the widening of Salters Road will do a better job alleviating Woodruff headaches and providing alternate connections than the new exit would have.

That project is underway and will soon extend a five-lane road with bike lanes from Verdae Boulevard across I-85 to the Carolina Point Parkway, Cooper said.

According to the Gville News, City Council approved covering any overages for Church Street.  Hopefully, this project will FINALLY start.

Hopefully we will continue to get more updates. Great info... Thanks!

http://dbw.scdot.org...reenville&TY=24 - now lets see some updates on the SCDOT website instead of delays.

Do you by chance have a link to this article?

You have to have a username/password though. Excerpt:

The council also voted to annex the 24.3-acre Caledon Woods apartment complex, adding 350 new city residents, and approved an agreement that puts the city at risk for any costs beyond $5.1 million that the state has budgeted to dramatically remake a portion of Church Street.

Fun fact: if you know the title of the story you'd like to read on The Greenville News website, Google it. The links from Google will give you the entire article for some reason... It's a great loop hole.

At the recent Greenville Bicycle Master Plan meeting we heard from a resident of the Overbrook community.  Prior to the E. North St. road diet, he was afraid to let his young boys use the sidewalk because of the excessive speeds.  With the reduced speeds, and the added buffer of the bicycle lanes, he is no longer afraid. I always forget about East North Street's re-do. It's another HUGE transformation. That's nice to hear! It's great to have skeptics experience the difference and share their story to various groups. Thanks for being there and then sharing on here!

Someone has already run through one of the medians knocking down all of the trees.  Very unfortunate.

Construction will start in January on the Church Street project according to an article in the Greenville News. Lower bids coming in this time and the city willing to pay for any cost over-runs are the reasons why it is finally moving forward.

I can't wait to see how this transforms the corridor! I'm also anxious to see how much, if any, redevelopment this produces...

Work on I-385 in Mauldin has already been delayed due to cold weather, just as the project was set to begin Monday night.

Ha...figures. They're going to have a hard time finding temps staying above 35 degrees without rain anytime soon according to the latest weather models and forecasts.

Staging has begun on Church St. According to the recent meeting, they are planning on starting the beginning of February.

Notes from the meeting

.  Construction to start with the removal of the inside lane from Augusta up to University Ridge                  .  Sidewalks will be 6’ wide and bike lanes will be 4’ wide

.  Trees will be planted on both sides as well as in median

.  Median will be planted with shrubs, flowers, and trees

.  Additional street lights on both sides and in medians

  .  New taller telephone poles to replace all existing poles (Duke will NOT bury lines during this project;

however,  they ‘may consider burying them at a later date’.)

.  The new traffic light at Pearl (which will be synchronized with other lights on Church) will be one of the last

      pieces of the construction.

.  The entire project is set for completion in June 2012.

I thought part of the 5+ million dollars going towards this project was for power line burial. :dontknow: Duke is starting to piss me off more than the SCDOT.

According to SCDOT, the budget would have needed to be doubled and this project would have been delayed so long it would have never happened because of funding if the power lines were to be put under.

And the because the federal government is involved they had to scrap any planned street parking and there will be no left turns allowed on to any of the side streets.  Lots of flaws in this one.

I agree with the street parking, that would/could be nice in the future... but I think that was scrapped a long time ago right? Without the street parking they are able to put a larger sidewalk... and a bike lane, which from what I hear COULD later be turned into street parking. The no left truns on side streets is to a.) improve traffic flow and b.) reduce safety issues. Some of those roads are not easy to turn on/out of.

Hopefully everything will come out in the wash and they can keep to their 18 month time frame.
