Fuddrucker's would do well in the West End, especially before and after Drive games.  I would hate to see it negatively affect Liberty Tap Room, Mojito's, etc. though.

I do not see how it would negatively affect competition.  Fuddrucker's specializes in burgers.  Liberty Tap Room specializes in brews.

Keep Fudd's in the burbs where they belong.  People come to downtown Greenville for the unique foods that can be found.  Get too many burger and wing places and downtown Greenville would turn into a similar city to our south.  If new burger places open downtown, let them be cool and fun....a slider place that serves 75 kinds of sliders.....vegan burgers.....a "burger bar"......etc, etc.   Even a small little home-owned place with a cool vibe.  There was a place in Jaskcon, MS. called Stamps Burgers.  Tiny little place.  You walked up to the counter and in this glass cooler was pounds and pounds of fresh red hamburger meat.  Once you ordered, by hand they would scoop out a large amount of meat, hand pat the patty, throw it on the grill, slice a fresh tomato, peel off lettuce, etc all in front of you.  They had great jazz and blues playing overhead.  It had a cool vibe.  Fudd's misses on any kind of vibe except suburban / family friendly.

This brings up a question I had just a few days ago, and that is: where in Greenville can you get a really good burger?  If someone were visiting from out of town and wanted a good hamburger, where would you take them?

Funny you asked that as I had company in town Easter weekend and they wanted a good burger.  We went on Saturday to Northgate Soda and got the pimento cheese burger.  It is the best, IMHO.  Could eat that burger weekly if fat grams were of no concern.     Also, Ware's Burger House in Greer.  What a burger should be....drippy, messy, wonderful!  In a great old stone building.  Good view of the mountains from the front entrance.

Great suggestions!  The pimento cheese burger at Northgate sounds wonderful.  That is now on my to-do list, for sure!

When thinking about this the other day, I remembered having a good burger at Liberty Tap Room a few years ago.  Someone else recommended Mojo's Burgers in Simpsonville, and raved about them.  That was the first I had heard of them.

And I know it's a chain, but the Ground Sirloin Cheddar Burger at Ruby Tuesday is really good.

Blue Ridge Brewing Company is a very good place for burgers and other American cuisine in Downtown.  They also have great ale-battered onion rings.

I like the bison burger at Ruby Tuesday.  I have grown to enjoy Five Guys burgers as well.

It has been a while now, but I ate a burger at Liberty Tap Room & Grill last year and remember it being decent.  They even make their own chips, which are good.

Several years ago, I tried a burger at Wild Wing Cafe during a football game and thought it was good.

Bohemian at Horizon Records used to have a GREAT burger on the menu -- plus, they'll cook it medium for you instead of the usual well-done you see most places.  Haven't been there in a while so I can't promise it's still there but if it is...hmm...may have to go there tomorrow.

So, I think we've basically proven that it is fairly easy to find a good burger in Downtown Greenville, diminishing the "need" for a specialty burger restaurant like Fuddrucker's, which had a chance years ago.

If Carolina Ale House actually opens in the near future, that will likely become just one more option on the already adequate list of places to buy a decent burger in Downtown.

I doubt anything was proven.  We discussed what other places offer burgers.  Many fall short of what Fuddrucker's offered.

Fuddrucker's was and is an established specialty burger restaurant.

Totally agree.  Plus, all the burger places that have been mentioned are waiter/table service restaurants -- which almost always come with a higher price point (and a less casual atmosphere) than a set-up like Fuddruckers or Five Guys where you order at a counter and then sit down.

I think downtown could use a few more quick-casual options where younger people, families, people on a budget or anyone who doesn't have the time for table service can grab a bite.  We've got subs covered, and Hot Dog King, Atlanta Bread and Bertolo's certainly count.  But no burgers.

How about someone bringing in Smashburger?  They are about to expand like crazy.  60 plus new locations coming this year.

Their expansion efforts seem limited to the midwestern United States.  Expanding into Greenville would require a major push through the southeastern United States.

I prefer to see Fuddrucker's return to downtown.
