It is an exciting time at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, with a lot of change and progress that is shaping up the campus to be more cohesive, dynamic and inviting. Currently, Xavier is constructing four structures that will not only provide modern classroom and offices, but new residence halls and dining facilities. The private Jesuit liberal-arts university has a current enrollment of 4,000 undergraduate students and 2,600 graduate students.

Due in part to the To See Great Wonders Campaign, Xavier began construction of the Hoff Academic Quad, a 9.5-acre development that will feature, upon completion in fall 2010, 170,000 square feet of new academic space. The Quad will feature three new facilities: the Conaton Learning Commons, a complex for the Williams College of Business and a central utility plant.

In addition, work began on the new residence hall and dining facility in March 2010, when the Dorothy Day House, Bellarmine Parish House, Loyola House on Herald Avenue and the Xavier Field Office on Ledgewood Avenue was razed. Housing over 500 students, the design features four residential blocks, greenspace on the roof of the dining hall, and retail space along Herald Avenue. It is scheduled to open in August 2011.

I completed a walk-around of Xavier's campus in March, taking numerous photographs of the new developments and of existing structures.

Dana Avenue through Xavier's campus will be realigned so that the s-curve is eliminated and the grade reduced, while improving pedestrian access and adding bike lanes.
