no official word on Neiman's yet....it could get interesting as I'm sure that Saks would love to jump ship on Dee Dee Harris and go to SouthPark mall now....stay tuned...supposedly we could hear something later this month.
It would amazing to have NM and Saks at SP.

I was out ot South Park Mall yesterday (July 3rd), and these rennovations are quite impressive. There are some areas that aren't quite finished, and it looks like several stores have yet to move in. After walking through the mall and driving through the area, I felt like this is the next Buckhead.

No complaints here!  I worry that Southpark is taking all of the good retail away from downtown though. 8-(  I doubt we'll ever see a Nordstrom in DT Charlotte because of the one at Southpark, unless things switch hands at some point and death looms over Southpark for such things.  And dang it, if we can't get a Bennigan's restaurant and a Marshall Field's department store somewhere around here I'm going to go absolutely crazy at some point!

You're right.  I see SouthPark's first residential high-rise coming in the near future.  Possibly a residential/hotel high-rise.  I think that the tide is starting to turn from the NIMBY's that held SouthPark back for so long.  I think that area residents and city leaders should come together to form a solid plan for SouthPark that will create a more dense, urban neighborhood that is pedestrian friendly.  Morrison Ave. could be a great strip to walk down if it was properly developed.  The Mall is going to develop the lot on the corner of Morrison and Sharon.  It is supposed to be outdoor retail.  It would be great if that retail was open both to the street and the mall providing a connection between the two.  Pedestrian friendly development could take place on the other side of Morrison too replacing the older buildings on that side of the street and that could also lead into the specialty shoppes there.  Morrison could become a terrific main thoroughfare for SouthPark.  Harris Teeter could do a little renovation and create a second entrance on the corner of Morrison and Sharon as well to help connect Morrocroft to the mix.  This would all of course lead down to Symphony Park.   This would also provide a walk-able connection for Spectrum’s new plan (I think it’s called Morrison Place) with its retail and residential mix.  Also, Shuttles could be run up and down the road from Phillips Place past Morrocroft and down Morrison to the Mall and Specialty Shoppes so that shoppers could park their car at one place and shop all day in South Park’s various centers without having to deal with or complicate traffic.

Maybe I'm wrong here, but I thought a residential mid or high rise was already in the works?

Yeah, The Pinnacle, but I would call that more of a midrise.  I don't remember how many floors that was.  SouthPark could use something a little more dramatic (read: taller) though.

Just thought I would let you guys know that despite the stores signs the Galyan's at SouthPark has just officially become a Dick's Sporting Goods.  The SouthPark store is the first Galyan's in the chain to be changed over.  Look for the signs to be changed soon.  The store will grand open as a Dick's Sporting Goods in a couple of months.  The store interior is currently under renovation from the Galyan's style to the Dick's double decker store style.

Dicks is alright... They tricked me into getting one of those cards that tracks what you buy though- kinda pissed me off.

They have a huge two story one near the outdoor portion of Triangle Town Center in Raleigh. Its supposedly one of the largest in the whole chain.

I think Southpark got tricked into thinking it had signed a unique retailer. Out with Sears, in with Dicks.

I was in SouthPark today and it looks like they have put up some names on blank construction wall locatons in the mall (like where Neiman's entrance will be and so on).  This maybe old news but there is a Lacoste store going in near Nordstrom.  This is a great tenant to land.

I got kicked out of the Lacoste in Prague because I had an ice cream cone...so I had to wait outside on the sidewalk while my friends shoped.

The reason Galyan's opened as a Dick's Sporting Goods is b/c Dick's acquired Galyan's - ALL stores - so eventually all Galyan's will become Dick's... be it upscale as they are, not like regular Dick's stores.   The new Dick's at SouthPark is quite nice nonetheless.  And yes, Needless Markups (i mean Neiman Marcus) will be joining SouthPark in Fall 2006.

Was the entire Galyan's chain bought by Dicks'?
Anyway, the mall looks 110 times better.  Hopefully we can see these improvments on more malls throughout the U.S.
