The link above has a timeline and info for this project.
"The first phase of the village will be the construction of a new streetscape along the west side of South Boulevard between Clanton Road and Freeland Lane. The completed streetscape project will include a bicycle lane, on-street parking, new lighting and landscaping, creating a pedestrian friendly environment along this portion of South Boulevard.
Work is scheduled to begin in mid-August and should conclude by late December 2011."

Came across the brochure for the project at Scaleybark by Pappas Properties. Has a few renderings and site plans. Gotta say though, the buildings are kind of ugly.

^ I dunno, I prefer these to the three story fake stucco buildings I originally imagined....
Reminds me a bit of "near Northeast" around union station in DC.

The site plan is great IMO, just the all gray design is rather cold and depressing. I imagine it being steel and cinder-block...

Actually saw this 2 weeks ago on the pappas website, I decided to not pass it along to UP because I felt it was all just massing renderings... LOL. I imagine it will turn out 100% different.

The phases on the site plan mention construction start dates of 08 and 09...so yeah I don't think we can put much faith in this.
But I agree with the last few posters, the site plan looks great even if the buildings in the rendering are uninspired.

This continues to be the most disapointing part of town for me. When the Carosell strip club shut down I had hopes of something at least marginally better -- unfortunately it bacame another sweepstakes joint. I guess the building will just fall down eventually....

During the change over they put black leather couches on the curb for some poor soul to take.
