It'll be good to see a substantial Hyatt. There are four other Hyatt Place hotels here already, Brentwood, Cool Springs, Music Valley and Hendersonville. They have no wow factor, but they are Hyatts. They all look like nice places, but I bet the downtown property will step it up a few notches.

Dave you are right. I was referring to the old Hyatt we remember so well from the 1970's!

Amen to that. Remind me to tell you a 1974 story of tequila, scaffolding, a girl (yes), the 25th floor of the unfinished Hyatt. This is me I'm talking about so rein in the imagination a touch.

It will be good to have Hyatt back in the Nashville marketplace.

Actually, "just" a Hyatt Place - but still, if it looks like the drawing, then it should be pretty nice..  a real Hyatt would be swell

Dave You told me the story once! Your feet hanging over the ledge with some hot 70's babe! That was funny as hell! Glad you made it out alive!

Looks like they are almost out of the building. I would look for this building to come down pretty soon. We may see a delay as the building probably has asbestos in it and that willl have to be removed first if that is the case. That may delay demolition for a few weeks.

Looks like this is a go, and White Lodging was working with Hyatt and not Giarratana. Hope the property Giarratana is looking to develop will happen.

Great news.  Just how much of that block is it going to take up?  The entire thing, or only the Rock City footprint?

My understanding was that White wanted another property in addition to this one. My guess is they are talking to Giarratana but who knows....

According to Producer2 The start date is April 1st, 2012 for the Hyatt, and it will be finished and open before the Omni.

Producer2 told me Westin is looking at three sites:

1) Next to Encore.

2) The large Michael hayes lot where Tony operates a Premier Parking lot.

3) The original site.

He said the most likely lot is the large Michael Hayes lot. This is the lot on 3rd that has the red concrete columns.

Our lot is not nor has it been under consideration for a hotel.

I thought this quote in this article was interesting.

Quote

One of those hotels is likely to be a 350- to 450-room high-rise within three blocks of the Music City Center, said Butch Spyridon, president of the visitors bureau.

13 stories is pretty small. Another downtown lot being occupied by a building that should be in midtown. I don't like seeing prime downtown real estate being taken up by such small buildings. There are buildings on the Vanderbilt campus taller than this. This is simply an example of poor land use management. You don't reduce your carbon footprint and make use of downtown land efficiently with such a small building.

I agree, and to add to the "insult" I'm afraid this is going to look extremely cheap.  Although its infill, we don't need cheap looking infill in the midst of the Schermerhorn, Pinnacle, and MCC.

It is confirmed that it will have the "firewall" i.e. the whole side of the building facing Gateway BLVD. having no windows? That to me is going to look horrendous.

I wish I could say I am surprised at this, but I am not. They know the "powers that be" in local Nashville government could care less about architecture standards.
