Upstate Forever has announced a new pocket park for downtown! The area between the Masonic Temple (Hub City Books) and Carriage House Wines will be transformed into an "alley" with several benches, tables, and greenery. It will also have a lot of "green" features such as permeable pavers.

The point of pocket parks is to make use of a very small, otherwise useless space. This will add one more layer to make down just a little more interesting.

Here is a link that shows an aerial illustrating where the park will go.

I saw this today as well, and I love it.  As you said Spartan, this pocket park will be a great thing to bring life to that alley, which is too small for anything else.  The article says it will only take 4-5 weeks to complete.  Can't wait!

There is a cool article about the people who are bringing us this pocket park. The company seems to be dedicated towards making Spartanburg a better place. Definitely worth a read!

The Pocket Park officially opened yesterday evening.  It looks great!  Really a cool space.  Check out the H-J article (with pictures).

That's great news. It's hard to tell from the pictures (due to all the people) but it looks like it was very well done. What a great use of previously wasted space!!
