For as long as I can remember, 20+ years, there's been a three block gap in the heart of downtown Miami.  I am so happy to see something rising in it, finally.

At first glance I thought Roark went Trump on us and put is name on a big billboard atop the Marriot.

It's nice to see the construction, but I still think that should have been a more iconic building than what we got.

And I love that old church on Brickell, it's beautiful!

Another question, in regards to the Brickell area:

I saw a pic of proposed streetscaping of Brickell.  Does anyone know when or if that's taking place?  It would greatly fix up that area, making it more walkable.  IMO, it would be good for upscale shopping, since many of these new projects will have LOTS of retail.  And what a signature address for a retailer:

Shop.
Dine.
BRICKELL.

Last week I had to go on the roof of our office building to reposition our satellite dish that got shifted in Katrina's winds. Got a few pics while I was up there.

Wow, you can see downtown Miami all the way from NW Miami-Dade.

Dolphin Expressway (SR 836) toll plaza, known as "The Wing". Full-speed Sunpass transponder lanes are situated on the far left, letting you zip through the toll lanes without stopping. Downtown Miami is in the background, right:

I've passed through Opa-Locka and it looks like a great town.  Next time I'm in the area I'll be sure to spend more time.

I wouldn't spend too much time there.. most areas are pretty shady, which is unfortunate, considering the historic buildings. Two things worth seeing and then just leaving are the Tri-Rail station and the Flea Market, where you can find just about anything, new and used.

^I rode the train through the Tri-Rail station.  It was so cool!  I wish more Tri-Rail stations were themed like that.  All of Palm Beach County uses similar designs, except WPB, since it's at a historic station.

Did you see the "historic" part of the station? It's really cool. They built the modern part as sort-of an "annex" to the original building and the old part isn't used (I believe they wanted to turn it into a museum, but I can't remember). It's good to see good design incorporated into the plans -- certainly adds to the daily experience and makes it more pleasing. Certainly the "temporary" stations that were created before it was decided that Tri-Rail would be a permanent operation aren't that friendly at all (Golden Glades station comes to mind).

I think it is very unique how they've modeled the new style from the old. Makes me want to sing, "A whole new world"  :whistling: "On a magic carpet ride".
