The Providence Police Department's efforts to crackdown on graffiti vandalism with assistance from the local community are beginning to pay off.  Check it out:

Press release from the Mayor's office

In a related effort to address the need for more rapid graffiti abatement, the Providence Police Department (District 9) is working with residents to conduct a graffiti clean up campaign.  Those who are interested in assisting this effort can PM me or contact PPD District 9.  We would like to eventually expand this to a citywide, community based Adopt-a-Block program.

I'm hopeful that the UP community, which advocates the idea of urban living with a high quality of life, will take an interest in this cause.  All of us can point out Providence's shortcomings regarding so many quality of life issues.  Here's an opportunity to get involved and really make a difference.  We need your help.

Some of us from GC:PVD are getting together to discuss our initiative on graffiti next week. We'll have more to talk about soon. There is a clean up scheduled for July 14th on the East Side sponsored by the College Hill Neighborhood Association and District 9 Police. I'll post more about that soon.

Stricter penalties for graffiti vandals in the state could soon become a reality, a penalty that would postpone a day every teenager looks forward to.

i just reported the graffiti across the street from my house.  the city needs to fix that form so that you can actually read it.  the black writing on the dark blue background makes it hard to read.  i also wish they'd put a box to type in some more information about the graffiti.  the place is on dean st, but the graffiti is on the back of the building.

Are we looking at the same form? it is black text on a white background. They also have a number to call ( 1800-TAGGERS) you can give those types of details to a real live human being. I know that type of interaction is strange and unusual, but it is very effective.

i was at work when i reported it, so i did it online.  it's different than what i have seen described here.  and it's just black text on the building, no other colors.

i work in a call center and try not to make personal calls.  it's hard to answer the phone for something job related when you're on the phone, but easy to type.

If Brussat focused more on these issues/types of articles and less on the windbag articles, a lot of people would be happier.

i was very impressed with this article... though he did manage to add a little jab at modern architecture in there.

I don't understand how the mayor can send letters to judges who are hearing cases on these graffiti issues and not have that be considered ex partie communication.

But it was a great press release regardless.
