^The exact reason why that projects sucks.

Prices will range from $389,000 to $1 million.

Holy crap, what doorknob is going to pay one million dollars to live in a mall?

That's why I'd like to see the RI Mall redone in a "lifestyle center" style with housing and office and retail. Keep the big boxes WalMart and Kohls, maybe do something creative with the rest of the mall (artists work lofts or something) or knock it down and redevelop the rest. What are they calling that now, grey field development? With good transit and improved pedestrian flow, especially across the highway to the Warwick Mall, it could become a tolerable area, and would not need to lose any trees to make it happen (it'd probably result in more trees). Its also a good location for a hotel with the highway access and proximity to the airport, or some sort of sports complex could be built there for Kent County.

Among other projects, the company is developing the land around the Crowne Plaza in Warwick’s Greenwood section. It’s also planning a $40-million, 15-story high-end hotel with condominiums on a small triangle of land in Providence across Steeple Street from the U.S. Post Office. The piece of land, which is bounded by Steeple Street, Exchange Street and Memorial Boulevard, is a part of the Capital Center development district in front and around the State House.

Hmmm, I wonder if Carp. is still talking up the triangle parcel or if the author just pulled that from their website.

Now that's not a bad idea.

I have to say that as far as crappy suburban retail centers go, I think this is a very nicely executed project. The quality of the buildings is much better than most and they seem to have actually made it walkable.
