Imagine a 36 story/ 120m - 130m tall building next to Radisson SAS Plaza Hotel and Posthuset. MAD (Moderne Arkitektur og Design AS) Architects has just recently proposed to built this building, and it will become the tallest building in Oslo and Norway. It will contain offices, residentials, retail and public areas as a small green park on the roof of the tower. The project is still in a early stage development, and there is no detaild information about the project yet.

Borkeplassen
Trondheim - Sør Trøndelag

This is what is been rebuilt on the plot who burned down in the December 2002 fire. Three modern buildings dressed
in wood and glass contains retail, office and residential. The buildings facing the shopping street Nordre Gate contains
retail in the two first floors and 18 apartments in the reminding 2 floors above. Behind these buildings a 5 story
office building is been built.

Construction started in September 2004, and is expected to be completed in February 2006. The 5 story office building
however is expected to be completed in october 2005.

The project is named Tjære Trondheim caused a lot of opposition. Many wanted to rebuilt this plot into what it was
before the fire, with low dense historic wooden buildings.

Here's an update on the Borkepklassen project. The building is now nearly completed. The first half was finished in time for the 2005 christmas season, the last half will be finished this month. The proposed five floor office building in the back was scrapped in favour of a backyard plaza, for cafés and restaurants. In my opinion the project is a resounding success, since this modern all-wooden commercial building definitely is a first, here in Trondheim.

PS. Sorry for the poor quality of the picture. Even a 2.0 megapixel cellphone camera can't quite do the building justice, it seems...

Some of these buildings looks like those of new neighborhoods of Lille or Amsterdam, it seems there are a kind of Northern or Nordic (?) architecture.
Anyway I have seen all posts about the projects and realisations, in Stockholm, Oslo, Stavanger, Trondheim, etc. I regard all this urbanism and architecture as very intelligent and beautiful (the landscapes too  ).

Please stop calling Norway for Scandinavia! That really hurts us  <_<  As the rest of the world only recognize Norway as a part of scandinavia, we feel a lack of identity...  :P

I never thought that we had so much urban, modern architecture. My home, Larvik, is just one big architectural disaster. The projects looks really cool on the pictures. But often, they do look cooler before than after they are built. (If anyone ever builds them)

Cool, you're from Larvik! Yes, there isn't much going on in Larvik, and what they have, have not amazed me yet! Tårngården isn't exactly the most beautiful high-rise in Norway either! But lets hope things change, Larvik could easilly turn inbto a very attractive city, because there is great potential there.  :)
